Partnership in Action: Valley Humane Society

Valley Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has worked to save and improve the lives of Tri-Valley cats and dogs since 1987. It was started by a group of passionate volunteers who were inspired to provide better options for animals in the Tri-Valley. Melanie Sadek, the Executive Director (pictured above) who has been with the nonprofit for nine years, explained that Valley Humane Society provides support for animals as well as having a large commitment to the people in their community. They encourage the bond between people and pets because we need animals as much as they need us.

All 16 employees share a passion for animals and making a difference by the services they provide; they rescue and rehabilitate companion animals, they champion responsible caretaking, they help share pets’ soothing affections with people in need of comfort, as well as helping preserve existing pet-guardian relationships.

Melanie & her team appreciate the amount of community support they receive every day. Valley Humane Society has nearly 500 active volunteers who do everything from cleaning to dog walking and much more. Their volunteers selflessly give their most valuable resource, their time, to support the animals at the Society. "I love that we do great work, but truly recognize that its only because of the people around us who make it happen," said Melanie. In order to volunteer, the minimum age requirement is 16 years old.

Valley Humane Society hosts school field trips, birthday parties and even Critter Camp during the summer. Kids and adults attending can expect to learn about kindness, compassion, and responsible pet care. Visit their website for more information or to enroll.

What’s next for Valley Humane Society? Melanie encourages the public to visit their website valleyhumane.org for their upcoming events, like Tips for Change at Sidetrack bar & grill or their Yappy Hour Series due to start in June. However, they are working on a giant project. They are in the process of working with the City of Pleasanton to install a temporary Veterinary Hospital called the Sandy St. Dennis, DVM Hospital to provide spay and neuter surgeries and other services to their organization’s animals and possibly other rescue groups. For the past 31 years they have relied on the local vet community to perform these services offsite, as their current facility doesn’t include a surgical suite. But the popularity of the local vets is making it difficult for them to secure the number of appointments needed to move their adoptable animals into new homes.

Valley Humane Society has been a Fremont Bank client since 2015. They chose to bank with Fremont Bank because of our strong relationships with the nonprofit community and the expert service they get from Brian Gentry, Senior Wealth Management and Private Banker, at the Pleasanton Branch. They appreciate having Fremont Bank as their financial partner and are thankful for the support they’ve received from the Fremont Bank Foundation.
